The Protest

Upon our return to Athens, there was a protest in Syntagma Square relating to all of the fires. Syntagma is where the Parliament Building is, and a huge meeting place that can't be missed when you visit Athens. We had heard about the protest from interviewing several people about the fires, and it turns out we weren't the only ones talking about it. We arrived in the square, all dressed in black, and found 8000 others doing the same. It was a peaceful protest, with some posters in Greek that our professor was able to translate for us. It was hard to believe that my first political protest was in a country that wasn't my own. I think some of us were worried that it would get violent, but it was more of a symbol of people coming together to stand for what they believe in. Quite an experience.
